25 June 2010 (Friday)

We went to PAn Sheng Developement project of 2 storey Terrace House. We were accompanied by Mrs. Nurziah, Mrs. Ima and Mr. Fabian. We came there to watch how the piling process works.

- As i mentioned before, the project use Bakau pile instead of RC piles.
-For Bakau pile,it is important to determine the ground water table as Bakau stays good if there is water.
- Surface of the cross-section will be cut smoothly without any angle to avoid slippery during attachment.

- Piling machine with a 1 Tan Hammer.

- Using only the piling machine, to carry the bakau to the piling point shows the efficiency of using what they have around them.

-Working on the pile sleeves, attached for the the incoming Bakau.

- A worker marked on the pile, maximum setting blow. From the marking point, they will calculate the settlement of a total 10 blow to determine the maximum hard stratum/ground.

24 June 2010 (Thursday)

22 June 2010 (Tuesday)

-Continue with my structural designing check. Apart from that, I was given the oppurtunity to try out the software "ProCon".

-Basically, ProCon is a software used by the engineers to analyzed components of structure.
-Different with Esteem, ProCon can only analyzed limited number of structure components.

21 June 2010 (Monday)

- In the morning, went to Kingfisher semi-detached 2 storey house, on a joint inspection with Pan Sheng S/B. We SUDC as the land owner are joint venturing with Pan Sheng (Developer). These are some arguements happens during the inspection between SUDC and Pan Sheng as the developer. Since SUDC were the land owner, we were given the royalty in a sum of 28 units houses.

The purchaser of unit 5 and unit 7 came with us to inspect together. There's a lot of defects founded, but Pan Sheng doesn't want to take responsibility, since the liberty period has already ended. Most of the defects are caused by bad workmanship.

Hence SUDC agreed to do all the rectification work. We appointed our contractor to do the work. Here, in the picture, we can see Mr. Lim were discussing with the purchaser.

SUDC foreman are inspecting for any problem causing the leak at the car-posh ceiling.

-Later on we went to SabaConcrete S/B. This time we're gonna do the test cube testing on our own. The cube we used for testing was not the concrete for any of SUDC's project. But it was especially made for our testing. There were a total of 3 grade 3o concrete cubes. All of them were 7 days old. We then do the calculation to determine the strength of the concrete. It was quite challenging because all the explanation were in Malay.

-Observe how the concrete were mix from a silo, to the lorry mixer for transportation to the construction site.

11 June 2010 (Friday)

- We went to Pan Sheng Development Project for a site visit. This is a 2 storey terrace house project. It is located near Kingfisher Park. This site visit was conducted by Mr. Fabian.
The first section we went to is the section where they are doing the concreting for ground slab.

-Those pipes coming out from the ground are the M&E pipes. As in the picture, the bigger diameter pipes is for the toilet bowl.
-Those starter bars coming out from the ground beam will be the re-bar for apron slabs (short bar) and for slabs (long bar).

-Bunch of formwork for different size and shapes of footing were placed at one corner of the site.

-This section where they are doing the first floor column. A number of column has finished.

-Workers pouring concrete into the formwork using a pale. For a small size column, this method is a satisfactory.

-to safeguard the piling base, usually the contractor will pinned a 4 points offset wooden sticks.

-Then using the footing grid line box to navigate and mark the piling points later on. Different size and shape, depends on the design.
-This project use bakau for piling, instead of the RC piles. Emphasize by the government as an eco-friendly approach.

-This piling sleeves made specially for bakau only. It helps to joint bakau pile.

-Piling machine for small diameter pile (6-12 inch diameter pile)

-Using manual method to bend steel bar into links, for RC.

-Excavator and backhoe, can be found in most all construction site.

10hb June 2010 (Thursday)

-Went to Seri Kayangan Apartment, in LKH to inspect defects on the unit Houses, that were affected by the rain that had been going on almost every evening here in K.K. This was a joint inspection, with Mr. Alex from City Top Sdn. Bhd. They are the specialist in Roofing. Basically this inspection not just to inspect, determine the cause of the leaking, but also to determine the cost and duration for the repairing.

-It was found that the total cost will be around RM400 (Inlcluding inspection fees).

-we can see there was a leak from the roof, seep through the plaster ceiling.

-Improper gutter installation was one of the main cause for the leak problems.

-After the lunch break, we then head over to another unit at Seri Maya block Apartment. The purchaser of unit G-5-1 ha just signed for SPA. Hence inspection on the unit must be done to determine the defects.

-Most of the tiles are either not matching in colour, cracked, uneven level & etc. Therefore, we will request for replacement for all the tiles.

-Another defect here is water seep through the wall from the hair crack due to inperfect installation of window's frame.

9hb June 2010 (Wednesday)

- Previously I've done the structural check design for the ground slab. Today, I will continue with the ground beam. Some parts of the steps can be analized by using ATS software. With the help of Mrs.Ima, we managed to get the Shear and Bending envelope using ATS.

- Did the example display of t he Aluminium, Roller Shutter & Glazing work sample for Darvel Bay project.

8hb June 2010 (Tuesday)

-We went to Kingfisher Cove construction site.
-Met with the Construction Project Manager, Mr. Liew. He told us on the authority he has towards the success of the project.
-Picutre shows ground to 1st floor column has finished.
-The arrow shows the conduit system for the M&E, buried down the slab.
-Those rebars "Dowell Rebars" point by the red arrow is somehow much longer than the other rebars. This rebars will be used for stairs construction for better strength.
-Those bricks were arranged using interlocking basic for porper bonding and strength.
-Picture shows the formwork for pre-casting the lintel beam has already been eloborated on previous entry.
-Service Hole : crucial part for maintaining optimum efficiency for drainage.
-Manhole
-Bar bending machine
-Concrete spilled along the column. This usually occur due to defect/unproper formwork for the beam above.
-In the evening, we went to LKH for handing over key to the purchaser officially. We came there early, just to check on the unit. It was found that there was a problem with the window, in the master bedroom. We managed to called the maintenance to fix the problem.
-workers repairing the window.
-Filling the handing over form.

-The project that suits with our level was then selected. After a short briefing by Mrs.Ima, we start doing the calculation design check.

-For the first task, our project was the "proposed Light Industrial Building at Sandakan SEDCO Light Industrial Estate Phase II, Mile 3, North Road Sandakan. Below are some examples of the calculation steps:

4hb June

-Waited for the contractor to take the document.

-Upon receiving the document, those contractors paid an amount of RM400 to SUDC for documentation fees.

-They will be given 1 week (until 14th June 2010) to return and submit their proposal. And each of the proposal, they will attach cheque or RM1500 for project deposit.
